Doors at 19:00h Show Starts 20:00h Tickets £17 each
Presented by Norfolk Blues Society
Every blues and music fan in the country, will be crossing off the weeks until the 10th Dereham Blues Festival that runs 10th / 11th / 12th / 13th and 14th July, but for me that seems a way off yet. So, this weekend, on Saturday 25th May, to help keep everyone going and to give a foretaste of what's to come, the Norfolk Blues Society has laid on the Big Gig at the Dereham Memorial Hall.
A thriller of a double bill of blues is lined up, with Santiago and The Soulmovers and Mississippi MacDonald.
Santiago and his compadres, The Soulmovers, Juan Gasco (drums) and Thanos Papageorgiou (bass) went down an absolute storm at the 2023 Dereham Blues Festival and are coming back to set a bonfire under this year’s blues extravaganza in the sonically outstanding Memorial Hall.
The show will be opened by the acclaimed, hard-working, ever-touring, Mississippi Macdonald. Mississippi is hacking up from London for the show, to make sure that this will be another great Dereham blues night to savour.
Running times for the show are:
20:00h: Mississippi MacDonald is on stage backed by the house band The Shunters
21:20h: Santiago and The Soulmovers.
22:30h: Curfew.
The Memorial Hall in Dereham is easy to find and there is plenty of parking, several excellent local pubs (all who become venues for the full Dereham Blues Festival in July) and frequent, fast buses from Norwich to Dereham.
Mississippi MacDonald will be back to entertain when he is interviewed by local blues-smith Ross Stewart, at the festival at the Orion Cinema on 12th July at 19:00h. It is unlikely the two of them will be able to resist jamming together. Tickets are only £3:50 here This event is one of several organised by the Community Blues Explosion charity that is boosting community engagement in music, alongside the official Dereham Blues Festival in 2024.
If you want to make a whole weekend of it, check yourself and your friends into one of Dereham's B&Bs, hotels, or camping and camper-van sites.
